FLUID MECHANICS

USCT
Fluid mechanics Third semester

Fluid mechanics deals with the following units:–

UNIT 1
Fluid statics and properties of fluid:  Here you will study equation of continuity and motion and Navier-strokes equations and its applications.
Bernoulli’s equation will also be discussed with its applications in real life. Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids will be studied along with types of flow i.e. Laminar or turbulent flow.

UNIT 2
Measurement and control of flowing fluids: here you’ll study the working of pumps and blowers.
Types of valves and its applications will be discussed.

UNIT 3
Boundary layer flow and turbulence: here we’ll study the different boundary layer theories to study the flow of fluids. The motion of solids in fluids and types of forces acting will also be studied.

UNIT 4
Incompressible fluids and Fluidization: Here we’ll study the flow in pipes, ducts and different types of nozzles. Various terms will be calculated for a pipe flow such as the velocity distribution and friction factor.
Agitation and mixing of liquids will be studied. Fluidization and types of fluidized beds will be discussed.
