USCT
Engineering Mechanics Second Semester |
The course ‘Engineering Mechanics’ is divided into 4 units which involve extensive study of concepts of mechanics :
Unit 1: This unit consists of study of force and momentum and their application, related theorems, equilibrium of bodies, friction, rotational mechanics and structures (beams, joints etc.) as well as study of various concepts related to distributed forces.
Unit 2: This unit involves the Kinetics and Kinematics of particles. Related important concepts are: conservation of energy and momentum, coordinates (rectangular and tangential)
Unit 3: This unit involves the Kinetics and Kinematics of rigid bodies. Related important concepts are relative velocity and acceleration, instantaneous center.
Unit 4 : This unit consists of the study of vibrations - types, types of rotors, spring mass systems and related numerical problems.
Textbooks: A textbook of Engineering Mechanics by R.S.Khurmi
Engineering Mechanics by Beer and Johnson.
