HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEMINAR:
- A gist of the Childhood ; In this Seminar, she referred her childhood as a bad memory and a reference to a memory back in the school day where a picture is shown and participated in singing competition with song called "pairo meih Bandhan hai", The people were hooting for her but when she came out, people started calling her with wrong names, this can also be referred as we are judged on what and how we sing, which is wrong. How gender differences can lead to discrimination that can be a poison and is killing the society.
- What the child desire; We implement our old mentality on the children, we must not forget the fact that they are unique in their own kind and they must be allowed to pursue what they truly desire.
- Avoid Conversation gap between parents; In your childhood, when you feel uncomfortable about something, you must discuss it with your parents. Parents should also understand what is going on with their child and they should work on getting to the solution, not hiding the problem for the sake of the society.
- Stand for yourself; You have your dignity, you have your own identity don't allow people to chose life for yourself, desire what you want to be and pursue it with your heart and dedication.
- Transgender at working places; Transgender at working places face discrimination by their co-workers. On a statistical basis, 90% of the transgenders experience harassment at their workplace which results in them leaving their jobs.
- What is gender; Gender is said to the roles we have to perform in the society. Gender is portrayed as a binary term. Taking an example of bell peppers, there are red and yellow bell peppers sold on the market, even there might be a slight price difference in them. Then there arises another question, What about the Orange bell peppers? Likewise, if there are males and females, there is no respectful place for transgenders in society.
- Gender is not in Pants, gender is in Brain; We must not orient the gender with the biological structure, it is about how mentally you portray the gender.
- Transgender in a nutshell; Transgender does not mean only " hijras ", it is a diverse term which includes male to female people, female to male people and many more, it must not be referred only to hijras.
Various initiatives are taken which implement on the equal position of them in society :
1) Punjab University: the introduction to the transgender toilet in the schools for the neutrality.
2)Whichever; Lalit sure hospitality group started this initiative in which they introduced washroom for their staff and guest with the title "Whichever" means any gender can use this washroom.
3)Gender neutral title; instead of using the title he or she, which excludes other people, using terms like 'they', 'them' and 'there' to refer people. This results in gender neutrality.
Summing up, we must realize that we should not judge people on the basis of how they look or how they feel differently, we must realize that everyone is special in their own way and we must cherish it.
Use the hashtag #ilivemytruth to spread the gender equality among people.
